Madonna: How do i see her and the history and culture of the 60's and 70's in her music.

I think in some points she is a revel, because in her songs she speaks about some topics that were taboo in that time. But on the other hand I think Madonna is following the culture. The 60’s and 70’s are known for all the changes that occurred there. I think that all that changes had a huge influence in Madonna and we can see the reflex of those changes in Madonna’s music.

The Blues

I think the Blues are a response to the historical moment where it was born. The lyrics and the music can tell us sad stories that make us feel bad or fun stories that make us feel better. For this reason I think that there is two types of Blues songs, the first one was made to tell people what was happening on that time so people never forget what happened, and the other one was made to give a little happiness to the people that were having a bad moment on that time and to the people that could have a bad moment now.

Introducing Uchy

Hi! My name is Lucia, but you can call me Uchy if you want. I was born in Barranquilla, Colombia. For those that don't know where Barranquilla is, this city is located in the north part of Colombia, and is famous because in Barranquilla take place one of the most important national parties, the carnival.

I was born in Barranquilla, but I was living in Bogota, the capital of Colombia, before coming here. I studied psychology at the university in Bogota, I graduated last May and I was working at the Human Resources Office in an organization called Fedegan and I was living with my 22 years old brother, who is studying business administration at the university.

I decided to come here to study English because I think English is a language that many people, from many different countries and cultures know, and I love travel, and it is easier to me speak to others, if I travel to a country where people don’t speak Spanish, if I know how to speak English, also I can get a better job when I come back to Colombia if I speak English, because I don’t know if in others countries it is the same, but in Colombia you can get a better job if you speak more than one language, especially if you speak English.

My goals for this ESL program are, improve my English in the first place, and know the American culture and other cultures through the people, from many different countries, that are doing the ESL program too.
